JOB SUMMARY
We're looking for a Senior QA Engineer who combines strong Playwright and TypeScript engineering skills with a proactive, collaborative mindset. You'll be a key contributor to how we deliver quality, raising the bar for our automation codebase and partnering closely with engineering to define how testing responsibility is shared across the team.
You'll join our dynamic and growing Product Engineering team at Storyblok, playing an instrumental role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our flagship CMS platform. This platform empowers businesses to create and deliver seamless digital content experiences.
In this role, you'll work closely with product owners, designers, and developers to design and maintain clean, scalable, well-architected TypeScript automation, establish clear guidelines on which test level is right for a given change, and continuously refine QA strategies to maintain best-in-class software quality. Your work will directly contribute to delivering an exceptional user experience by ensuring flawless performance across every facet of our application.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Own projects end-to-end with clarity, technical excellence, and accountability, ensuring high-quality standards across teams.
- Champion strong TypeScript engineering practices and coding standards across the QA codebase, promoting engineering excellence and driving continuous improvement.
- Design, implement, and maintain efficient, well-typed, and reliable automated tests across frontend and backend using Playwright.
- Raise the team's TypeScript bar: introduce stronger typing patterns, reusable abstractions, linting/tooling standards, and code review practices that improve maintainability across the automation codebase.
- Partner with engineering to define, implement, and enforce the test pyramid in practice, establishing clear guidelines on which test level (unit, integration, E2E) is appropriate for a given change, and driving adoption so both developers and QAs consistently write tests at the right level.
- Perform manual and exploratory testing; document, track, and verify defects to ensure product excellence and analyze test results and monitor key testing metrics to identify patterns and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate actively in project kick-offs to understand requirements, anticipate risks, and influence testability from the earliest stages.
- Identify and communicate issues, risks, or dependencies early, escalating to product leadership when necessary.
- Mentor and support teammates on TypeScript proficiency and Playwright best practices, fostering an open, empathetic environment that encourages learning and feedback.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience as a QA Engineer or Software Engineer in Test.
- Deep proficiency in TypeScript, including a strong command of advanced typing and code architecture, as well as Playwright.
- Practical experience partnering with engineers to define and roll out test pyramid guidelines, including setting expectations for which test level is appropriate and holding both developers and QAs accountable for following them.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and experience creating and maintaining containerized test environments.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and align across technical and product teams.
- High attention to detail, proven ability to deliver results, and a strong motivation to contribute to organizational growth in a high-performing environment.
- Experience mentoring engineers, defining and driving TypeScript and test automation standards across teams.
- Demonstrates AI literacy, with the ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, decision-making, and quality of work while applying sound judgment and critical thinking.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience writing and maintaining Ruby on Rails code.
- Experience with observability and error tracking tools (eg. Grafana, Kibana, Sentry) and identifying errors, trends, and issues.
- Experience with performance testing and best practices.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Remote (home) work opportunity or funded by Storyblok co-working space
