About the role
Our client is looking for a product-minded Tech Lead (backend) to help build one of the most exciting B2B platform startups in Portugal. You’ll be joining a team that breathes software engineering, product quality, and people who care about solving problems the right way.
We believe great engineers can learn new tools quickly, so the recruitment process is entirely language-agnostic. We’re mainly looking for strong backend fundamentals and great soft skills.
Key Responsibilities
- You’ll own central and complex components of our application
- You’ll provide leadership and mentorship to other engineers on the team
- You’ll collaborate with different domains to find elegant solutions to usability problems
- You’ll help turn rough ideas and specs into features
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack software development.
- Deep understanding of MVC architecture, RESTful API design, and object-oriented programming in any modern backend language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js, Ruby, C#)
- Prior experience or a strong willingness and ability to learn and work effectively in Ruby on Rails.
- Familiarity with caching strategies (Redis/Memcached) and complex search/analytics engines (Elasticsearch, or similar)
- Good understanding of how software is built, including code quality principles and testing techniques
- A strong product mindset (it’s not just about getting things done, it’s about getting them done the right way)
- Deep knowledge of software development best practices, including code quality principles, unit testing, CI/CD, and scalable architecture.
