Program Design and Governance: Collaborate with the BA Trade Manager to ensure BA compliance with national and international export control, sanctions, customs, tariff classification, anti-dumping requirements, and ABAC laws globally. Support implementation of ABB Corporate Regulations, identify gaps, and draft necessary BA-level policy updates and procedures.
Compliance Guidance: Provide general and transaction-specific compliance guidance on Trade, ABAC, and HuRi matters to Legal & Integrity colleagues and relevant business managers, including on complex export control, sanctions, and anti-corruption questions; coordinate with Group Legal as required.
Licensing and Government Submissions: Establish guidelines for, and where appropriate, monitor, the filing of export license applications and other official submissions to government authorities; coordinate with Group as needed.
Risk Assessment & Leadership Insights: Collaborate with the BA Trade Manager to conduct risk assessments and provide senior leadership with actionable insights on geopolitical influences affecting import/export strategies, sanctions exposure, and ABAC/HuRi risks across jurisdictions and business lines, in coordination with the HOI and BA GC.
Monitoring: Oversee and maintain the Monitoring dashboard; coordinate with divisional focal points on monitoring activities. Lead, on behalf of the BA, or country-specific task forces to monitor, guide, and manage compliance activities in sanctioned sectors or countries.
Government Relations and Due Diligence: Assist, coordinate, and/or oversee the BA's interaction with government authorities on sanctions, export licensing, anti-dumping, and ABAC matters; serve as designated BA focal point for military and defense sector compliance. Manage a team of subject matter experts responsible for reviewing due diligence output from the TPM Buy and Sell process and mitigating identified risks.
Investigation and Training: Investigate, or oversee the investigation of, alleged Trade, ABAC, or HuRi violations; develop and implement remediation and corrective action plans. Design and implement a customized, division-specific compliance training program covering Trade, ABAC, and HuRi topics, including in-person sessions and oversight of online training materials.
Communications and Compliance Tools: Working with the BA Integrity Operations Manager, design and implement a BA-wide communications program covering Trade, ABAC, and HuRi topics with policy updates, regulatory alerts, and awareness campaigns. Work with Group, country, and Business Line teams to promote and oversee compliance tools including SAP Global Trade Services and ABAC workflows; evaluate emerging compliance technologies.
Qualified lawyer with a Master's degree in Law or equivalent
Deep domain knowledge in Trade Compliance, Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABAC), and Human Rights (HuRi), with a strong command of applicable legal frameworks including export controls, sanctions, FCPA, UK Bribery Act, and UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
10+ years of Trade and ABAC compliance experience, including (a) effective decision-making at senior corporate level, (b) demonstrated management, organizational and communications abilities, and (c) a clear understanding of international relations, global trade, and ABAC/HuRi compliance; experience in a leading law firm, in-house, or a combination of both will be considered
Proven people leadership experience, including managing, coaching, and developing compliance professionals
In-depth knowledge of government regulatory processes, position-specific legal requirements (export control, sanctions, customs, etc.), and compliance best practices
Knowledge of the international marketplace, international politics, and global trade, AML and Sustainability-compliance goals and programs
Familiarity with commercial issues and product offerings for industries related to ABB’s global trade
