Upstreamly is growing and we are looking for an Accounting Associate / Técnico(a) de Contabilidade to join our team in Porto.
Upstreamly is an accounting and financial consultancy firm based in the UK and Portugal. Since 2015, we have been supporting clients across different sectors, including energy, technology, e-commerce, manufacturing and services.
Our Portugal team is growing in response to increasing demand from international clients, including UK businesses operating in Portugal and foreign investors with Portuguese entities. This is a great opportunity to join an international business at an early stage in Portugal and grow with the team.
The role involves regular communication in English with international clients, so a strong working level of written and spoken English is essential. Portuguese is also required for local accounting, tax and administrative matters.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks
- Bookkeeping, record maintenance and preparation of accounting information
- Supporting monthly, quarterly and annual accounts and reporting
- Supporting VAT/IVA, corporate tax and other compliance-related tasks
- Assisting with payroll processing and employee-related administrative processes
- Helping with tax registrations and communication with relevant authorities
- Preparing reports and financial information for internal and client use
- Communicating with clients by email and, when needed, in meetings
- Working with colleagues in Portugal and the UK to ensure client work is delivered accurately and on time
- Helping to set up and maintain organised processes, records and documentation
- Supporting other client advisory, administrative and operational tasks as the business grows
What we are looking for
- Academic background in accounting, finance, management, economics or a related area is valued
- Some experience in accounting, bookkeeping, tax, payroll or finance is valued, but we are open to junior candidates with strong potential
- Strong working proficiency in both English and Portuguese, written and spoken
- Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Comfortable working with numbers, documents and deadlines
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with clients
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office tools
- Motivation to learn, take responsibility and develop within an international accounting environment
- Comfortable working in a growing team, with flexibility, collaboration and a practical mindset
Nice to have
- Previous experience in an accounting firm or finance department
- Knowledge of Portuguese accounting and tax processes
- Experience with VAT/IVA, payroll, tax returns or client reporting
- Familiarity with accounting software, including CentralGest
- Interest in becoming a Portuguese Certified Accountant / Contabilista Certificado
- Experience working with international clients
