We're looking for a Solutions Architect – Mortgages Domain to join our team in Portugal in a remote working mode. This is a senior role focused on designing end-to-end solutions for mortgage-related projects within a major UK bank. The position requires strong problem-solving capabilities, the ability to produce detailed Solution Design Documents (SDDs) and an understanding of functional and non-functional requirements, risk management and migration from legacy technologies. You will collaborate with a wide architecture community, ensuring reusable patterns and compliance with enterprise architecture standards.
Responsibilities

Own end-to-end solution architecture for mortgage-focused initiatives, delivering clear and practical designs aligned with governance standards
- Create Solution Design Documents (SDDs) and diagrams covering functional and technical architecture views
- Document As-Is, Transition and Target Architectures and align solutions with strategic roadmaps
- Collaborate with other architects and teams to coordinate inputs from multiple architecture disciplines
- Apply decision-driven design principles to define integration points and system interactions
- Contribute to decommissioning and migration strategies for legacy systems while reducing technology obsolescence
- Communicate architecture decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Provide architectural assurance to ensure compliance, feasibility and alignment with IT standards
Requirements

3–5 years of experience as a Solutions Architect within large financial institutions (retail or corporate banking preferred)
- Proven track record in IT systems design, functional architecture and integration patterns
- Ability to develop practical architectures aligned with defined IT standards and governance frameworks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
- Experience influencing and guiding diverse stakeholders and managing architecture decisions diplomatically
- Familiarity with managing risks and issues in a regulated financial services environment
Nice to have

Direct experience designing solutions in the mortgages domain or related financial products
- Awareness of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, ArchiMate or C4 models
- Skills in handling ambiguities and demonstrating resilience in fast-paced, high-compliance environments
- Experience defining strategies for integration, migration and decommissioning legacy systems
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills across multiple workstreams
