Purpose
The Discipline Lead Engineer's purpose is to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and safe engineering solutions that meet project objectives and contribute to the overall success and sustainability of the projects.
Responsibilities
Analyze real-time process controller data from offshore assets to identify performance gaps and recommend control strategies for improved efficiency and reliability.
Measure controller performance fleetwide (KPIs) using statistical monitoring tools.
Identify and address “bad actor” controllers, working closely with local shorebase teams and offshore resources to optimize performance.
Lead root cause analysis for control system issues, both remotely and during offshore visits, ensuring minimal production downtime.
Collaborate with offshore operations, maintenance, and process engineering teams to implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide guidance and training to offshore personnel on control system operation and troubleshooting.
Review new FPSO process control schemes and designs, providing expert feedback to project engineering teams to ensure operability, safety, and compliance.
Support the development of real-time process simulation models for operator training, troubleshooting, and production optimization.
Supervise specialized vendors where appropriate, ensuring quality execution.
Capture and document lessons learned for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Education
Engineer Diploma in relevant discipline.
Experience
10 to 15 years in Oil and Gas Industry
Offshore/onshore upstream process facilities start-up, including commissioning & integration of control systems.
Commissioning of control systems in mid-stream is also possible.
Experience in Process/Process control troubleshooting in an oil production environment.
Proficiency with DCS, PLC, and ICSS systems; familiarity with Siemens PCS7 is a plus.
Knowledge of APC (MPC/DMC), PID tuning, and process optimization techniques.
Knowledge of advanced control techniques including multivariable controllers, nonlinear controllers, feedforward controls, quality estimators, and optimizers.
Understanding of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and IEC 61511 standards. TUV certification is a plus.
Understanding of equipment control packages, such as centrifugal compressor capacity and surge control systems (e.g. CCC controllers), and pump control logic.
Experience with software tuning packages such as Tai Ji or ProTuner, with in-depth knowledge of their application for system optimization.
Knowledge of process simulators (Steady State/Dynamic) and real time process simulation systems.
Knowledge of controller monitoring tools such as Control Performance Monitor (CPM) is a plus.
Comprehensive understanding of hardware aspects (valves, actuators, positioners) to diagnose and resolve issues that limit control performance, ensuring adequate dynamic response and improving system stability.
Experience in Process/Process control troubleshooting in an oil production environment.
Familiarity with process historian and analytics tools such as PI Vision and Seeq.
