The Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer will support the Lead Electrical Commissioning Authority with the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of electrical commissioning activities on data centre or other mission-critical projects.
Key responsibilities include:

Support electrical commissioning activities across construction, pre-functional testing, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.

Carry out site inspections, checks, and testing support.
-
Coordinate day-to-day commissioning activities with contractors, vendors, consultants, and other engineering disciplines.
-
Raise technical, quality, or safety issues clearly and early when something is not progressing correctly.
-
Support high-risk testing windows and out-of-hours commissioning activities when required.
-
Review electrical designs, drawings, and commissioning information with a focus on testability, maintainability, and operational readiness.

Assist with reviews of single line diagrams, control and protection philosophy, and electrical system interfaces.

Identify potential testing, operational, or sequencing issues and escalate comments to the Lead Commissioning Authority.

Support the production, review, and execution of commissioning documentation, including L2 and L3 checklists, contractor test records, L4 functional test scripts, and L5 Integrated Systems Testing documentation.

Record test results, observations, defects, and actions accurately.
-
Ensure red-lines, changes, and commissioning observations are captured and communicated.
-
Attend or support FATs as required, including for switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.
-
Carry out or support equipment inspections, pre-functional checks, and functional testing.
-
Verify that systems are ready before progressing to the next stage of testing.

Support Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing under the direction of the Lead Commissioning Authority.

Assist with normal operation testing, failure and recovery testing, and electrical system response verification.

Coordinate during IST with mechanical commissioning engineers, BMS / EPMS teams, load bank providers, contractors, and vendors.

Observe system behaviour during testing and provide clear feedback on findings, risks, and required actions.

Support compilation of commissioning records, test results, snag lists, and handover documentation.

Assist with O&M manual reviews, as-built reviews, training support, and final handover activities.
Required Qualifications:
-
Minimum 6–8 years of experience working with electrical systems on data centre or other mission-critical projects.
-
At least 3–4 years of hands-on involvement in commissioning activities.
-
Experience supporting Level 4 functional testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing.
-
Proven site-based experience during testing, not only documentation review or witness roles.
-
Practical experience with most of the following electrical systems:

MV and LV distribution systems
-
UPS systems
-
Diesel generators
-
ATS / STS systems
-
Protection and control systems
-
Basic power monitoring systems
-
Understanding of how electrical systems interact during failure scenarios, recovery sequences, and integrated testing.

Ability to support commissioning activities on live construction sites and during critical test windows.
-
Strong attention to detail and a practical, site-focused approach.
-
Ability to identify, report, and escalate technical or safety concerns promptly.
-
Clear communication skills, especially when reporting issues, test observations, and commissioning risks.
-
Ability to work reliably under pressure, including during out-of-hours or high-risk testing activities.
-
Willingness to ask questions and challenge issues when something does not look correct.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Electrical engineering degree or equivalent technical experience.
-
Commissioning certifications such as CCP, ACP, or equivalent.
-
HV authorisation or switching experience.
-
Experience attending or supporting FATs for switchgear, UPS systems, generators, or other critical electrical infrastructure.
-
Experience supporting data centre commissioning from construction through IST and handover.
-
Familiarity with BMS, EPMS, mechanical interfaces, and load bank testing coordination.
-
Experience supporting training, O&M reviews, as-built reviews, and client handover activities.
-
Interest in developing into a Lead Electrical Commissioning Authority role.
