We are recruiting on behalf of a private family in Vila Sol for a part-time Education Coordinator & Academic Mentor to support and coordinate the education of a primary school student following the British curriculum. The successful candidate should also have previous experience teaching Portuguese, ideally to children or international students.
This part-time role is based within a private family and combines academic mentoring, Portuguese language tuition, coordination of tutors and extracurricular activities, and liaison with schools, educators and other relevant service providers.
The role would suit a proactive, approachable and resourceful education professional who is comfortable working independently and managing a personalised educational program.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the student's educational program across school, private tutoring and extracurricular learning
- Implement and oversee an individual educational development plan
- Source and recommend suitable tutors across relevant academic subjects
- Monitor tutoring arrangements and the student's academic progress
- Coordinate the student's educational timetable and extracurricular schedule
- Provide appropriate homework and academic support
- Liaise with the school, teachers, tutors, sports clubs and activity providers
- Accompany the student to lessons, extracurricular activities and relevant appointments when required
- Research suitable educational and enrichment opportunities in the Algarve
- Provide Portuguese language lessons
- Provide occasional assistance with administrative matters involving Portuguese-English communication or translation
Key requirements
- University degree
- Strong knowledge of the British school and university education systems
- Portuguese language proficiency at C2 level or equivalent
- Previous experience teaching Portuguese, ideally to children or international students
- Fluent English, with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organisational, planning and coordination skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and take initiative
- Professional and discreet approach to working within a private family environment
- Full Category B driving licence and confident driving experience
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience as an Education Coordinator, Academic Mentor, private tutor, educational consultant or in a comparable education-focused role
- Experience developing or managing personalised educational programs
- Knowledge of educational and relevant local service providers in Portugal, ideally within the Algarve
- Experience working with international students or families living in Portugal
