We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of commissioning activities on complex construction, engineering, and mission-critical projects.
This role is suited to someone with solid site experience, a strong mechanical building services foundation, and a clear interest in building a career in commissioning. You will work closely with Senior and Lead Mechanical Commissioning Authorities, supporting inspections, testing, documentation, and handover activities across mechanical systems.
Site experience is essential for this role. Candidates who have not previously worked on site are unlikely to be suitable.
Responsibilities
Commissioning Support

Support Senior and Lead Mechanical Commissioning Authorities with day-to-day commissioning activities.

Be present on site during inspections, testing, and commissioning works.

Support commissioning activities from Level 2 through Level 5.

Help ensure commissioning activities are organised, documented, and traceable.

Follow instructions carefully during testing, inspections, system proving, and commissioning activities.

Report observations, issues, and risks clearly and accurately.
Design and Early-Phase Support

Assist with the review of mechanical drawings, schematics, layouts, and system diagrams.

Help check drawings against installed site conditions.
-
Support reviews to identify discrepancies between design intent and actual installation.

Develop an understanding of how design decisions affect commissioning, operation, maintainability, and system performance.
Commissioning Documentation

Assist with commissioning documentation, including Level 2 and Level 3 checklists.

Complete checklists under supervision.

Review contractor test records for completeness and accuracy.

Help prepare test packs, evidence folders, and supporting commissioning records.

Learn how Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning scripts are structured and used.
Site Activities

Support mechanical commissioning works on site.

Assist with equipment inspections, pre-functional checks, and basic functional testing.

Support Senior Engineers during factory acceptance tests, site testing, system readiness reviews, and commissioning inspections where required.

Help track issues, snags, and outstanding items through to close-out.

Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and procedural compliance.
Integrated Systems Testing

Support Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing under close supervision.

Observe failure scenarios, system responses, and recovery behaviour.

Help log test results, observations, and issues during testing.

Develop an understanding of how mechanical systems interact with electrical, controls, and building management systems.
Handover Support

Assist with commissioning records and document close-out.

Support the preparation of handover documentation.

Help track snags and outstanding actions.

Support handover and training sessions when required.
Required Qualifications
-
2–4 years of experience working with mechanical systems on construction, engineering, or commissioning projects.

Proven site experience.

Exposure to mechanical building services systems.
-
Basic understanding of mechanical drawings, schematics, layouts, and system diagrams.

Willingness to learn commissioning processes and take direction from senior team members.
-
Comfortable working on site, including occasional long days when required.
-
Strong attention to detail.
-
Clear communication skills, particularly when reporting issues or observations.
-
Strong respect for safety rules, procedures, and site protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience on data centres, mission-critical facilities, or large commercial or industrial projects.
-
Commissioning experience, particularly Level 2 and Level 3 activities.
-
Exposure to Level 4 and Level 5 commissioning activities.
-
Exposure to HVAC systems, chilled water systems, ventilation systems, pumps, valves, AHUs, CRAHs, CRACs, or cooling plant.

Basic understanding of controls interfaces and BMS operation.

Experience supporting FATs, site testing, system readiness reviews, or commissioning inspections.

Mechanical qualification such as a degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent.

Basic mechanical safety training.
-
Interest in how mechanical systems behave during failures, abnormal operating conditions, and recovery scenarios.

Commissioning certification is not expected at this level.
