Offer Description
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to be part of the Advanced Omics Platforms (AOP) of Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre, to provide technical services to support the current operation.
Sample Processing: Process human pancreatic tissues and patient-derived organoids into high-quality single-cell or single-nucleus suspensions using
mechanical and enzymatic dissociation protocols.
Quality Control: Perform rigorous quality control on isolated cells using techniques such as Flow Cytometry/FACS, Trypan Blue staining, and automated or manual cell counters.
Sequencing Preparation: Load single-cell suspensions onto the 10x Genomics Chromium Controller to generate barcoded suspensions ready for library generation and sequencing on the Illumina NextSeq 2000 instrument.
Protocol Execution: Perform laboratory protocols in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to produce reliable and precise data for scientific research.
Sample Management: Handle fresh and archival samples (fresh-frozen and FFPE) from patient material and perform data entry/tracking using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Maintenance & Compliance: Ensure the cleanliness of the AOP lab space to comply with Quality System Regulation requirements and help maintain laboratory stocks of kits and reagents.
Collaboration: Develop positive relationships with internal teams, resolve technical issues efficiently, and participate in routine lab meetings to contribute to research planning.

Skills / Qualifications
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Education: PhD or other post-graduate level qualification in life or medical sciences.
Languages: Proficient in both English and Portuguese.
Technical Skills: Significant experience with a variety of cell biology techniques including:
- Expertise in aseptic technique, tissue dissection, and the isolation of high-quality cells and/or nuclei from human tissues that are either fresh frozen or FFPE.
- Proficiency in viability counting and Flow Cytometry/FACS.
- Ability to follow SOPs and experimental workflows accurately and efficiently.
Soft Skills: Strong communication, organizational and IT skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Single-cell sequencing experiments using the 10x Genomics Chromium Controller using either Flex or EpiMultiome.
- Experience with other 10x Genomics platforms such as the VisiumCytAssist and Xenium.
- Experience with Next-generation library workflows such as ATAC-seq.
- Dataentry and sampletracking using LIMS and document management systems.

The Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is a state-of-the-art facility comprising research laboratories, a day hospital, a surgical centre, as well as inpatient and intensive care facilities. The mission of the Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is to develop new and effective treatments for pancreatic cancer. To accomplish this goal a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, clinicians, clinical trials specialists, cancer scientists, genomics experts and computational biologists work together to deliver world-leading outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer.
The Botton-Champalimaud Pancreatic Cancer Centre is also closely integrated with the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown. Members of the Champalimaud Research Programme (CR) and the Champalimaud Clinical Centre (CCC), work together to investigate fundamental biological processes and search for effective solutions to alleviate the burden of oncological, neurological and mental diseases, while providing state-of-the-art care to the patients of the CCC. With 479 members, including group leaders, postdocs, PhD and MSc students, research technicians and highly specialised research staff, the CR community encompasses 39 nationalities.
Within the Lisbon Ocean Campus, CF will expand its research, technological development, innovation, and clinical practice in the digital therapeutics field.
