DHL Supply Chain is looking for an accomplished senior leader to take responsibility for one of our most strategic business units in Portugal. Reporting directly to Iberia CEO, this role combines strategic leadership, commercial growth, operational excellence, and people development, with full accountability for business performance and future growth.
The Business Unit Director is responsible for defining and executing the business strategy, ensuring sustainable growth, operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
The successful candidate will drive business development initiatives, identify new market opportunities, oversee large operational projects, and lead high-performing teams while ensuring full compliance with corporate standards and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Business Strategy & Growth

Define and implement the strategic direction of the Business Unit in line with corporate objectives.

Identify and develop new business models, services, products, and market opportunities.

Lead business case assessments and feasibility studies for new initiatives and operational frameworks.

Partner closely with Business Development teams to strengthen relationships with existing customers and secure new business opportunities.

Analyze market trends and competitor activities to support strategic decision-making.
Operational Excellence

Ensure the delivery of high-quality services and achievement of key operational indicators.

Maintain best-in-class service levels and commercial agreements with customers and business partners.

Develop contingency plans to mitigate operational risks and address critical situations.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices across the organization.
Financial Management

Own the Business Unit budget, forecasting process, profitability analysis, and performance monitoring.

Ensure budget compliance and deliver sustainable improvements in business profitability.

Lead the implementation of new projects and services, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
Leadership & People Development

Lead, motivate, and inspire teams to achieve ambitious business objectives.

Foster a high-performance culture focused on engagement, accountability, and continuous development.

Drive succession planning and talent identification in partnership with Human Resources.

Support individual development plans and career progression across the organization.
Requirements
Experience
-
Minimum 5-10 years of experience within the Supply Chain industry.

Senior leadership experience managing transportation networks and complex logistics operations.

Experience in business growth and commercial strategy

Strong background in business case analysis, operational improvement, and project management.

Experience leading business transformations and change management initiatives.

Good understanding of transportation methods, capacity planning, cost management, and operational efficiency.

International experience is considered an advantage.
Education

University degree required.

MBA and/or qualifications in Logistics or Supply Chain Management are highly desirable.
