You will join a diverse team of data scientists, engineers, product managers and translators as part of the Life Sciences Data CoE, within the McKinsey Life Sciences Practice.

YOUR IMPACT

You’ll be responsible for creating next-generation data and analytic solutions that help us serve clients and stay on the cutting edge in the industry.

You will create next-generation data and analytics solutions that deliver impactful insights for clients, leveraging large-scale medical and pharmacy claims data to inform strategic decision-making.

You will partner with client teams to produce high-quality analyses and enable rapid, data-driven client development work, ensuring that insights are actionable and aligned with client needs. In this role, you will design and develop scalable, reusable solutions and products that generate data-driven insights, advocating for the thoughtful use of advanced analytics tools and methodologies.

You will guide teams on selecting the right datasets and analytic strategies, ensuring that the solutions delivered maximize client impact. Additionally, you will collaborate across practices, analytics groups, and technical teams to ensure efforts are synergistic and leverage cutting-edge approaches.

You will act as a thought partner to internal and external stakeholders, showcasing McKinsey’s data ecosystem and capabilities while aligning solutions with client objectives. You will also drive awareness of the firm’s data risk policies, refining and operationalizing KPIs to ensure compliance and accountability.

The Data CoE is a highly visible team and a high-profile position; the Data CoE works regularly with McKinsey life sciences senior leaders and clients. McKinsey’s Life Sciences practice serves clients across multiple functional service lines spanning Commercial, R&D, and Operations.

Finally, you will continuously seek opportunities to enhance the value delivered to clients, challenging the status quo and integrating innovative approaches to data and analytics where they drive measurable impact.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering, computer science, physical sciences, statistics, data science or medicine

3+ years of professional experience as a data analyst or data scientist; preferred consulting experience within Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, biotech or MedTech device industries

Experience working with, processing, and analyzing healthcare medical and pharmacy claims data, EMR data, clinical trials data, commercial data, and other types of data relevant for healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical device business use cases

Experience in advanced analytics techniques, including machine learning and GenAI applications

Working knowledge of at least two claims’ data sets (e.g. IQVIA, Symphony, Healthverity, CMS, DRG, Compile, Komodo, Truven, etc.)

Experience applying data science methods (i.e., statistical modeling, machine learning techniques: regression, forecasting / predictive modeling, decision trees) to healthcare and Life Sciences business problems

Understanding of key terminologies including: ICD-10, NDC, CPT, HCPCS, NPI, SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm

Proficiency in at least two of the following coding languages: SQL, Python, or R

Proficiency in at least one of the following visualization/BI tools: Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik, or similar visualization/BI tools

Proficiency in handling large amounts of data in at least one of the following cloud computing tools: Snowflake, Microsoft Azure cloud, or AWS

Experience developing and executing detailed analytics workplan and presenting to senior stakeholders and clients

Ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues
