Food Preparation / Kitchen Helper (Ajudante de Cozinha)

BAAN Canteen is looking for enthusiastic and reliable Food Preparation / Kitchen Helpers to join our kitchen team.
You will play an essential role in supporting our wok chefs by preparing ingredients, maintaining high hygiene standards, organizing the kitchen, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
Position Details
- Start date: August 2026 (or as soon as possible)
- Location: Lisbon Oriente, Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama
- Concept: Thai food corner with a unique concept
- Working hours: 40 hours per week / 25 hours per week
- Schedule: 5 working days per week, according to operational needs (including evenings, weekends and public holidays)
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, cutting and slicing vegetables, meat and other products.
- Set up workstations with the required ingredients and equipment.
- Keep workstations clean, organised and sanitary throughout each shift.
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
- Wash and properly dry dishes, utensils, cookware and cutting boards.
- Store kitchen equipment and utensils in their designated areas.
- Label, date, cover and rotate ingredients following food safety procedures (FIFO).
- Monitor stock levels and replenish ingredients when necessary.
- Remove waste, replace garbage bags and clean waste bins.
- Sweep and mop kitchen areas to maintain cleanliness.
- Store food and ingredients according to HACCP and food safety standards.
- Support the kitchen team in ensuring efficient daily operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen (minimum 2 years preferred).
- Culinary qualification is an advantage.
- Good understanding of food preparation techniques.
- Safe and confident knife handling skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Availability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
- Ability to communicate in Portuguese and English.
