About EUROMAR
EUROMAR is the exclusive commercial and service partner of MAR, the Madeira Ship Registry: an EU, onshore and whitelisted flag (Paris and Tokyo MoU). We sit between shipowners, ship managers, and the Portuguese authorities as a trusted partner, pairing the advantages of an EU flag with a straightforward, digital registration process and 24/7 maritime support.
MAR-ADAPT is our applied research project, funded under Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), developing an adaptive software architecture for flag-state administration. This is a fixed-term role for the duration of the project (approx. 18 months).
The role
As a Domain Research Analyst, you work out how flag-state administration really happens and turn it into structured models and rules that our new architecture can run on. Expect plenty of listening to experts, mapping processes and writing things down precisely. It’s applied research: you’re building the knowledge base the rest of the project depends on. We are hiring two analysts.
What you’ll do
- Document how our flag-state services work today (vessel registration, seafarer certification, document issuance) and the regulation behind them.
- Build a formal domain model, and pin down where regulatory change hits the process.
- Run knowledge-elicitation sessions with our experts and turn what you learn into formal rules.
- Test that the captured rules are complete and hold up against real, historical cases.
What you bring
- A background in requirements engineering, business or process analysis, knowledge modelling, or applied research.
- A knack for making sense of messy, ambiguous domains and writing them down clearly.
- Comfortable using GenAI tools for research and drafting, and sensible about checking their output.
- Fluent English; Portuguese helps for interviews with local staff and authorities.
Nice to have
- Maritime or flag-state knowledge is a plus, not a must — curiosity and quick learning matter more.
