Cook & Barback — Casa Aberta Rooftop Bar
Casa Aberta Rooftop Bar is looking for a Cook & Barback team member to join our small, flexible team.
This is a hands-on and versatile role combining food preparation, cooking, service support, and barback duties. We are looking for someone who is highly independent, organised, quick, and comfortable switching between different responsibilities depending on the needs of the service.
The role
On Tuesday and Wednesday, you will be responsible for the kitchen independently, from preparation through service. You will be the only cook on shift, so the ability to organise your time, anticipate what needs to be done, and manage the kitchen autonomously is essential.
On Thursday to Saturday, you will support the pop-up chefs we host at Casa Aberta, helping with service while primarily taking care of barback duties.
Responsibilities
Tuesday & Wednesday — Kitchen + Service | 15:00–23:00
- Prepare and organise all ingredients before service
- Set up and manage the kitchen independently
- Execute the menu during service
- Plate and send dishes efficiently
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen throughout the shift
- Monitor stock and communicate preparation or supply needs
- Handle opening and closing kitchen duties
Thursday–Saturday — Service + Barback | 19:00–00:00
- Support the pop-up chefs during service
- Assist with food service when needed
- Take responsibility for backbar organisation and preparation
- Restock the bar throughout service
- Keep glassware, equipment, and the backbar clean and organised
- Help the wider team wherever needed during busy periods
- Assist with closing duties
- What we're looking for
- We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly independent and confident running a kitchen alone
- Fast, organised, and efficient, especially during service
- Flexible and comfortable switching between kitchen, service, and bar responsibilities
- Proactive and able to anticipate what needs to be done without constant supervision
- Calm and solution-oriented in a busy environment
- Reliable and responsible
- Comfortable working with different chefs and teams during our pop-up events
- Passionate about food and hospitality
- Experienced in kitchen work; bar or barback experience is a strong plus
- English-speaking; Portuguese is a plus
Schedule
Tuesday & Wednesday: 15:00–23:00 — 16 hours/week
Thursday–Saturday: 19:00–00:00 — 15 hours/week
Estimated number of hours : 31 hours/week
