Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in a doctoral program, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects.
Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by master's degree holders who are enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
Candidates must have a master’s degree in electronic and electrical engineering, Computer Science, or any other relevant subject. Specific skillsets include programming skills such as C and Matlab, and experience with Amazon Cloud. Priority would be given to candidates that possess relevant industry experience. Strong self-motivation for scientific research, excellent proficiency in spoken and written English, and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Work Objectives:
Designing, implementing and experimentally evaluating a lightweight credential gateway that allows constrained IoT devices to use DLT-backed credentials without carrying the full computation and communication burden on-device. Specific tasks include: The applicant is expected to deliver the following research outcomes: i) Lightweight DLT-backed credential gateway architecture for constrained IoT devices ii) Prototype implementation based on existing SSI and DLT components iii) Scalable evaluation environment and a complete experimental evidence base covering latency, throughput, scalability, resource consumption, and robustness across realistic scenarios.

A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 123/2019, dated August 28 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Rodriguez Gonzalez.
Duration:
12 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 4 years. Start date: September 2026 or soon thereafter.
Monthly salary:
1359.64€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.

Curricular evaluation - the evaluation of the application will focus on the i) overall merit of the curriculum vitae, ii) knowledge in the field of this project, iii) the candidate’s adequacy, suitability and motivation for the project and iv) fluency in oral and written English.

Each criteria, and the final classification F will be evaluated in a scale (0-20). The candidates will be ordered according to:
