There is an open call for three (3) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project 6G-VERSUS, funded by Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement no 101192633.
Scientific Area:
Networks and Services
Group:
Telecommunications and Networking – Av
Admission Requirements:
Research grants (BI):
Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in an integrated master's or a master's degree, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects.
Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by graduates enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.
There are three open positions, each with different profiles. To be eligible for the competitive selection process, candidates must demonstrate experience in various areas. The cross-cutting requirements for the different profiles are as follows: 1) Candidates must be enrolled in a master’s degree program, an integrated master’s program, or a non-degree academic program in the field of computer engineering and telematics. 2) Knowledge of telecommunications, strong motivation, and the ability to work as part of a team. 3) Written and spoken Portuguese. The specific requirements for Scholarship Profile No. 1 are as follows: 1) Solid knowledge of mobile networks, particularly regarding 5G core network functions; 2) Practical knowledge of using and programming open-source 5G core network implementations; 3) Proven experience in implementing functions for exposing energy consumption information from the core network. The specific requirements for Fellowship Profile No. 2 are as follows: 1) Solid knowledge of mobile networks, particularly 5G core network functions; 2) Practical knowledge of using and programming open-source 5G core network implementations; 3) Proven experience in implementing mechanisms for exposing network functions and applying them to network power management mechanisms. The specific requirements for Scholarship Profile No. 3 are as follows: 1) Proven experience in implementing mechanisms involving programmatic interfaces for obtaining sustainability-related metrics, particularly within the scope of IETF PETRA; 2) Practical experience in designing and configuring complex physical testbeds, including the configuration of connections between caches and clients; 3) Implementation of automated tests using data retrieval schemes (e.g., SNMP) and visualization tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) The selection committee reserves the right to reject all applicants.
Work Objectives:
Regarding Profile No. 1, the objective of the work is to develop a mechanism for exposing mobile network consumption information that can be applied to the autonomous optimization of networks integrated with computing mechanisms and to the use of sustainable programmable interfaces. About Profile No. 2, the objective of this work is to develop advanced mechanisms for exposing mobile network capabilities, with applications in private network scenarios and industrial environments. Regarding Profile No. 3, the objective of this work is to develop mechanisms for integrating sustainability metrics into networks and computing environments, for the automation of advanced smart industry processes. The proposed implementations target scenarios associated with different vertical sectors, so there is a possibility that validation will effectively move beyond the laboratory and be evaluated in various industrial environments.
